| It's been quite a while since I last used up my space here (a lot of things have happened since) but I'm glad to be back. To be honest, I had second thoughts about writing here again since I wanted to start fresh and new on another blog - a "fresh start" if you will. Well, at least that's what people call it these days. Part of the reason is because I'm at a stage of my life where I don't feel like the same person I was months ago let alone years (since I started this dear blog) partly because of growing up and some of us just...change. My priorities have definitely changed since I lost my dearest dad two months ago. It made me self-reflect and think a lot. About life. About myself. About others. It wasn't as if I wasn't thinking about these stuff before. I just think about it more and feel it. It's hard to explain - but I guess it's either you get a feeling or you don't and this time, I'm getting it. I guess my passion right now is to really focus on making myself a better person. My dad's passing made me realize even more that life is just too damn short to waste it on things that are meaningless, redundant and bad for yourself. I find comfort in God more than ever now and so far, I've found all my answers from my prayers to Him. I live by every single day knowing that it might be my last and by doing that, I have this overwhelming desire to try to be the best version of myself. One of the biggest hit for me was to realize | | |
| Time to yourself is a luxury that not a lot of people can enjoy, but to me, it is THE perfect luxury. It's not so much of I don't mind being by myself. I just happen to enjoy my own company. I've always been one who prefers to have lunch on my own and I really don't mind watching movies alone in the cinema (although I'd much prefer to watch it at home sprawling on the bed in my pj's) One of my favorite past time is to do grocery shopping and I could spend a good 15 minutes just thinking of whether I should choose the sweet jalapeno instead of the hot one. Whether the lemon-flavored Glade would be nicer than the lavender. You know, stuff like that. I love being able to walk around without a care in the world - stopping by random shops just because. | | |
| (Note: My first post here since October 2009. Whoa.) Yay or nay? I've always had a complicated relationship with footwear, in general. I'm 5'9 (who knows if I'm still growing) and so wearing 3-inch heels here in Malaysia would be frowned upon mainly cause I'll be towering most of the male population in KL. Lil' kids would probably think I'm a character from Jack and the beanstalk so yeah.. Well, I've never been one to wear high heels that much anyway. I think that heels and platforms are normally worn on special nights out i.e. clubbing with girlfriends or dinner with your man (unless if he's shorter). Seeing I rival my grandma at loving to stay home, I pretty much don't have a lot of those nights hehe. My days in Melbourne changed that a bit and I started wearing heels more and felt right at home :) For starters, the guys are way taller than me. Heck, even the girls are around my height so it wasn't a big deal to be 5'9 (or add a few more inches with heels). At the end of the day, I'm most comfortable in flats. Yes, I live in them day in and day out. I must admit one thing though - I almost never wear sneakers or anything remotely close to it (unless if you count running shoes which, of course I use A LOT). Nonetheless, I have this sudden craving for bright colorful sneakers: Seriously, don't they look like lollipops? I know, I know..it's nice to look at but to be able to pull it off is a different story. Either way, I'll take my chances. Even if it means looking like Kanye West. Any recommendations on what's hot? | | |
| Some things are too good to be true...
Like our Sydney trip.
Less than a week ago, I was in Sydney for my spring break which, by the way, was one one the best trips I've had besides my Europe trip earlier this year. I've been to Sydney before, but this time it was different. I got to really relax in the true sense of the word. I went with Anita (couldn't ask for a better companion) and our trip from the start till the very end had been nothing but smooth. - no flight delays, smooth journey, great food, perfect weather, great people and a relaxing time. We fully indulged and pampered ourselves in Sydney's heavenly Bondi and Manly beach and stayed there most of the day while exposing ourselves to the harsh UV ray and excessive vitamin D (in which we responsibly applied spf30 sunscreen), went deep in the ocean and played with the waves and ate ginormous amount of food (I even got Anita to ditch her diet for the orgasmic deep-fried Mars bars). Imagine how we felt when we escaped Melbourne's wet winter weather only to find that Sydney's weather was in the 30's range. One word: HEAVEN.
At night, we'd just chill out and do nothing. On the second night, we went to Ivy club which is one of the best clubs I've been to (a must-go for those of you there!). We met interesting people along the way - from guys with terrible pick-up lines to painfully hot ones without the terrible pick-up lines, some people with amazing life stories to tell, a guy I swore was on ecstasy (this wasn't so nice), Camille the French girl who introduced us to The Ivy (many thanks!) and the dude from Cyprus whom Anita wanted to slaughter for his misstatements (LOL that was so funny). And who could forget the South American dude who's (still!) hitting on Anita? Lol.
Anyway, while I'm blissfully typing this, perfectly aware that my life is getting exponentially harder by the day (thanks to final semester exams), I close my eyes for a second and think of the perfect sunny Thursday by the harbor. I can't wait to get everything over and done with for good.
And then it's Sydney again for me :)

| I'm fat.
Not FAT FAT but fat.
I don't care if you say I'm not or that I'm exaggerating or if I'm delusional or attention-seeking, but I think I'm fat, according to my own standards.
Or to put it mildly, I'm getting...erm, bigger.
I'm perfectly aware that I'm not obese and that my BMI is normal. I don't even want to be thin but I just hate the fact that I'm eating unhealthily for the past 2 months or so. Or the fact that I totally abandoned the gym.
I hate stuffing myself with 12 pieces of kuih batik in one night or finishing the Cadbury chocolate's that sitting all lonely in the drawer. I have a sweet tooth and a major weakness for all thing cocoa, cheesy (the more the better), milky and buttery.
But one should know when to stop, and lately, I find it hard. Maybe because it's fasting month, but that's no excuse. Excuses are just for the lazy and I want to stop becoming one.
So what better time to get back on track than the motivation to go to Bondi in spring??
I can't think of a better one. The capital of all things bikini would certainly kick me hard on the arse if I choose to eat everything buttery or made out of either cheese or cocoa.
I find eating well really important although I don't necessarily condone or even practice it religiously. You're talking to someone whose mum never eats chocolate cakes or pizza in an entire decade or probably her whole life. Who requested no rice in all of her Californian rolls every time we're in Marriott's Japanese restaurant. And exercises regularly despite her crazy schedule (I don't even know how mom juggles all this, she must be superwoman!) And then there's dad who eats homemade food that's only cooked in olive oil and free from coconut milk since post-surgery about 10 years ago. And both parents who prefer wholemeal bread than white bread and they're the only people I know who would happily say no to nasi lemak and roti canai and curry mee and chillis' molten cake (the irony!)
Of course, they're not robots - they're just an extremely disciplined bunch. Although I have to say that my mom has a thing for all things kuih melayu - kuih lapis, kuih ubi, kuih bakar (you get the picture). Give her one and you'll see that she'll politely reject it until 2 seconds later when she'll go "Oh, I'll actually try some" :) Even then, she'll just have one or two pieces then she knows when to stop.
I wish I was more like mom.
You see, the effect of my parents being health-concious, unfortunately, did not spread on us. Growing up, my mom would say "You shouldn't be eating Maggi, it's not good for your health" and things like that, but that never stopped me and my siblings from going to each and every single supermarket isle to get our Honey stars,Milo,Coke,Twisties and Lays, chocolates, fries and nuggets and errrr....Maggi. My parents weren't the kind to force anything on us when it comes to food so we've always had the choice on whatever we wanted to eat. As a result, you get 3 kids with massive appetites.
Food is essential to us and I'm not saying it in terms of surviving. I mean, it's really a huge part of my life. My mom has been a firm believer that "you can spend a lot of money on food" (as opposed to shopping?) and our family takes joy in eating out, trying out so many different food and making good ones :)
Which is why I find it hard to say no to food - it's the key to my heart and the insurance to my happiness hehe.
But as much as I love and adore it with a passion, I should learn to control this habit.
So, here are my baby steps:
1) Just got on brown rice like 2 days ago and contrary to popular belief, it's not so bad. 2) Cut down on desserts (I can't possibly cut it, or else I'll end up binge eating anyway). I did have a few small pieces of Liyana's (note:low-fat) cheesecake and 3 kuih batik and Tia's shepherds pie but that's still an improvement from before hehe. 3) I will start exercising after fasting, I promise. 4) I will try to get the ankle weights and walk around in those like SJP did with her Louboutins ;) 5) I will try to eat more fruits and veggies and try drinking more water. 6) I will try and keep my room clean cause I think it's directly related to my motivation to do all things. 7) I will try (really really hard) to not eat late at night, especially before I go to sleep. 8) I will go out more often to walk/jog 9) I will not have 2 deep fried mars bars in Sydney...I'll just have ONE :P
I have to admit, Sydney and the beach are giving me a boost to shape up and start eating healthily, at least for these 2 weeks leading up to then! But it's holiday and raya time! *sigh*
It's good that I have Anita in it with me though :)
Anyway,I'll leave with 2 words: GOOD LUCK!
